Our Director, Dr. Ron Poropatich, presented at the Research-In-Progress Conference on January 5, 2024

On January 5, 2024, our Director, Dr. Ron Poropatich, presented to the Pittsburgh Heart, Lung and Blood Vascular Medicine Institute's Research-in-Progress Conference! Dr. Poropatich's presentation was titled "Overview of DoD Medical Research Funding Opportunities." Thank you to the Vascular Medicine Institute for inviting Dr. Poropatich to this conference and sharing the work that he does to connect University of Pittsburgh investigators to the medical and research needs of the Department of Defense.

The Pittsburgh Heart, Lung and Blood Vascular Medicine Institute is holding a special seminar on Research-in-Progress in BST S120 (Address: Vascular Medicine Institute, 200 Lothrop Street Pittsburgh, PA 15261) featuring Dr. Ronald Poropatich, Professor of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine, Director, Center for Military Medicine Research at the University of Pittsburgh. 

CMMR Director, Dr. Ron Poropatich presented at the Pitt McGowan Weekly Seminar Series

Center for Military Medicine Research Director, Dr. Ron Poropatich, presented to members of the Pitt McGowan community about how they can get involved with Department of Defense (DoD) medical research opportunities. The title of his talk was "DoD Sponsored Medical Research: Funding Sources and Tips for Success." It was a nice crowd gathered to hear from Dr. Poropatich about the tips, strategies and things to know when engaging in medical research for the DoD. CMMR Commercialization Manager, Jan Berkow, visits the Air Force's 911th Air Lift Wing

Center for Military Medicine Research Commercialization Manager, Jan Berkow, visiting the U.S. Air Force's 911th Airlift Wing in Pittsburgh, PA on Tuesday, November 14th. The purpose of the meeting orchestrated between the facility and Pittsburgh Technology Council was an introduction to resources at this Air Force Reserve Aeromedical facility and desire to work with the community.  Examples of collaboration efforts orchestrated via their “SparkCell” innovation organization was mentioned.

CMMR hosted a Veteran's Day Appreciation Reception on Thursday, November 9th.

The team at the Center for Military Medicine Research hosted members of the University of Pittsburgh community for a Veterans Day reception at the University Club Library on Pitt's campus on Thursday, November 9, 2023. This was an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of the Pitt community whom served in the military and are now serving as professors, clinician, staff members, etc. at the University of Pittsburgh.

CMMR hosts the Steel City Spark Medical Collider Event on October 12, 2023

The Center for Military Medicine Research (CMMR) hosted the Steel City Spark Medical Collider Event on October 12, 2023. The focus of the meeting was to Accelerate Medical Innovation in the Pittsburgh Region. In addition to the team at CMMR, the meeting included members from the following:

· Steel City Spark & U.S. Air Force (The 911th Airlift Wing /171st Air Refueling Wing)

· AFWERX

Congratulations to CMMR Commercialization Manager, Jan Berkow, Clinical Initiatives Advisor, Dr. Michael Pinsky, and UPMC Clinicians and Researchers, Dr. Francis Guyette, Dr. David Salcido, Dr. Hernando Gomez and Dr. Lenny Weiss on having their abstract accepted at the 2023 Digital Health Summit on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

The title of their abstract is Semi Closed-loop Control Cardiovascular Resuscitation to Reduce Hemorrhage Related Military and Civilian Mortalities.
