Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative to launch the Pittsburgh Regional Autonomous Patient Safety (RAPS) Initiative

The inaugural effort by the Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative to launch the Pittsburgh Regional Autonomous Patient Safety (RAPS) Initiative to establish Pittsburgh as a global hub for developing autonomous patient safety technologies. 

There were four breakout sessions:

  • Patient Safety R&D and Opportunities for Collaboration
  • Commercialized Solutions
  • Opportunities for Medical Specialty Breakthroughs
  • Federal Safety Priorities

There were six University of Pittsburgh faculty involved in the panel presentations and discussions as well as the Center for Military Medicine Research (CMMR), involved as a sponsor of the meeting.

Pitt Faculty members included:

  • Richard Boyce, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Informatics  
  • Lee Harrison, MD, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
  • Jose-Alain Sahel, MD, Chairman and Distinguished Professor, Department of Ophthalmology
  • Paul E. Phrampus, MD, Director, Winter Institute for Simulation, Education and Research (WISER)
  • Frank Guyette MD, Professor of Emergency Medicine, Medical Director, Stat MedEvac, Emergency Department, Attending Physician
  • David Salcido, PhD, Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine
