Towards High Resolution Vision Restoration by Optogenetic Therapy

Title: Towards High Resolution Vision Restoration by Optogenetic Therapy

Principal Investigator: José Sahel, MD

Supporting Agency: Department of Defense -  Military Operational Medicine Research Program (MOMRP)

Project Goals: The proposed project period represents Phase A of a three phase plan that will include the initiation of a new clinical trial. Our team will concurrently work in several areas to optimize a high-resolution optogenetic therapy for vision restoration.

Specific Aims:

Aim 1: Controlling coverage of the retina using injectable hydrogel matrix.

Aim 2: Improved transfection efficiency and specificity with custom engineered vectors and promoters.

Aim 3: Optimize stimulation using 3-dimensional approach that mimics stimulation pattern in a healthy retina using computer generated holography and stimulation modelling.
