New study on Generative AI in military and healthcare settings features Pitt researchers

Nature magazine has published a new paper that features military and University of Pittsburgh researchers. The title of the paper is "Adopting and expanding ethical principles for generative artificial intelligence from military to healthcare." The underlying purpose of this paper is to study the ethical dilemmas and challenges posed by the integration of generative AI into the healthcare practice.

Center for Military Medicine Research Director, Dr. Ron Poropatich, presented to members of the Pitt McGowan community about how they can get involved with Department of Defense (DoD) medical research opportunities. The title of his talk was "DoD Sponsored Medical Research: Funding Sources and Tips for Success." It was a nice crowd gathered to hear from Dr. Poropatich about the tips, strategies and things to know when engaging in medical research for the DoD. CMMR hosted a Veteran's Day Appreciation Reception on Thursday, November 9th.

The team at the Center for Military Medicine Research hosted members of the University of Pittsburgh community for a Veterans Day reception at the University Club Library on Pitt's campus on Thursday, November 9, 2023. This was an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of the Pitt community whom served in the military and are now serving as professors, clinician, staff members, etc. at the University of Pittsburgh.

CMMR Director, Dr. Ron Poropatich visits the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency

Center for Military Medicine Research Director, Dr. Ron Poropatich met with leaders at the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) located at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia on Monday, July 17, 2023. Dr. Poropatich met with Major General/Retired Dan Lecce, DCSA Deputy Director and William Lietzau, Director of DCSA to discuss collaborative opportunities and how the University of Pittsburgh can address DCSA's needs through our research capabilities.

This is an opportunity to get a peek into the budget priorities for the United States Department of Defense in the next fiscal year. This is a worthwhile read for the University of Pittsburgh research community that engages or wants to engage the United States Department of Defense for research dollars.

The University of Pittsburgh's Center for Military Medicine Research hosted with partners, Leidos, Inc., the Center for Artificial Intelligence Innovation in Medical Imaging (CAIIMI) and the Department of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh,  the Digital Pathology Transformation in the Federal Ecosystem seminar on May 10-11, 2023 in Reston, Virginia.

This was a 1 1/2 day seminar to discuss the benefit of digital solutions and AI in anatomic pathology.
