Congratulations to Dr. Chandan Sen, who as been appointed as the new Director of the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, effective September 1, 2023! The team at the Center for Military Medicine Research and McGowan have been close partners at the University of Pittsburgh to move Pitt medical research forward in addressing needs for the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs.

The Center for Military Medicine Research and collaborators at the University of PIttsburgh attend MHSRS 2023!

The University of Pittsburgh's Center for Military Medicine Research and collaborators at the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine and School of Pharmacy's Program and Evaluation Research Unit attended the 2023 Military Health System Research Symposium at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Kissimmee FL from August 14-17, 2023. The booth was packed with meetings throughout the week to share how the University of Pittsburgh is addressing key military medicine research needs for the Department of Defense.

CMMR Director, Dr. Ron Poropatich visits the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency

Center for Military Medicine Research Director, Dr. Ron Poropatich met with leaders at the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) located at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia on Monday, July 17, 2023. Dr. Poropatich met with Major General/Retired Dan Lecce, DCSA Deputy Director and William Lietzau, Director of DCSA to discuss collaborative opportunities and how the University of Pittsburgh can address DCSA's needs through our research capabilities.

The United States Senate Committee on Armed Services released its FY 2024 NDAA Executive Summary

Check out the United States Senate's Committee on Armed Services FY 2024 National Defense Authorization Act Executive Summary. This is an opportunity to get a peek into the budget priorities for the United States Department of Defense in the next fiscal year. This is a worthwhile read for the University of Pittsburgh research community that engages or wants to engage the United States Department of Defense for research dollars.

CMMR and Pitt Engineering hosted the Army Research Laboratory!

The Swanson School of Engineering (SSOE) and the Center for Military Medicine Research (CMMR) co-hosted a meeting on advancing research in personal protection and performance for soldiers and civilians on March 21-22 at the University Club in Pittsburgh, PA. Over 60 invited guests including program managers and subject matter experts from the Army engaged in robust scientific discussions with investigators from the University of Pittsburgh, University of Delaware Center for Composite Materials, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Northeastern University, and Harvard University.

The University of Pittsburgh's Center for Military Medicine Research hosted COL James Jones & Scientific Leaders from the US Army Medical Capability Development & Integration Directorate (MED CDID), Army Futures Command, San Antonio, TX. The group spent the week of January 16th at the University of Pittsburgh for a comprehensive review of the university's scientific and medical capabilities.
